Book Review Monday: The Paleo Slow Cooker

Welcome to Book Review Monday, where I share with you what is currently on my nightstand, a favorite book, or simply one that has had an impact in my life. These books range from recipes to green living and everything in between; sorry, no torrid romance novels or tear jerkers here!

The Paleo Slow Cooker Healthy, Gluten-Free Meals The Easy Way

Ever wished you had a maid and a chef so when you come home everything is done and food is ready? The slow cooker is the chef–if you figure out the maid part let me know!

I was really excited to get The Paleo Slow Cooker for two reasons; I am very busy during the week to cook, especially since most nights I am in school, and two, because I tinker with the whole Paleo thing. I am not Paleo, not even gluten-free, but after I did an elimination diet with my son to find the culprit of his eczema (read the post here) I really enjoyed being grain/gluten free for a while, and realized I did feel better laying off grains for a while.

The Paleo Slow Cooker was written by Arsy Vartanian, founder and chef of of the popular Paleo blog Rubiesandradishes.com, and foreworded by Chris Kresser, L.Ac.

The skinny on Paleo

This book gives readers a clear picture of what the Paleolithic diet is all about, it’s health benefits, and a section dedicated to one of the darlings of the Paleo world; good fats.

The Food

From appetizers to desserts this book is filled with easy to gather ingredients and easy to prep recipes. I was very impressed by the recipes; ranging from staple slow cooker recipes like roasts to more exotic such as oxtail soup or Persian stew, and really pleased to see seafood recipes, something I have never cooked with my trusted slow cooker before. I’ve made two of the recipes already, and can’t wait to cook my way through them all.

The Paleo Slow Cooker is full or mouth watering recipes for sure, making it not only pleasing to the eye but a great visual guide as well.

Besides a great cookbook it is also a great nutritional resources, through out the book you will find nutritional tid bits accompanying some of the recipes or at the beginning of a chapter.
